Similar to grounds for divorce, these include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>One of the spouses committed adultery<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Living together is intolerable for one of the spouses.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Criminal activity has either been committed by one or both spouses.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>For at least 24 months, the two parties have lived separately.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Before filing the petition, one spouse had continuously abandoned the other for at least six months.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Prior to the petition&#8217;s filing, both parties had lived separately and apart by mutual consent for a continuous period of 12 months.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>The irretrievable breakdown of a marriage<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As was already said, if both parties decide to patch up their marriage, a separate maintenance order might be dissolved.
